Home security and entertainment. (the easy way.)

There is no need to spend so much time and money for a home entertainment and security system. I wanted something that isn’t going to need constant maintenance and updates, still provided all the security and features without the headaches. I also don’t want to pay for subscriptions services, such as iPhotos.

My solutions stack;

Requirements

  • Stream videos/audio from local NAS to my TVs using iPhone and Chromecast.
  • Access my Video and Music library remotely using Synology DS video and DS audio apps.
  • Backup all my iPhone photos directly to my home NAS via Synology Photo
  • Setup Video surveillance using Synology DS CAM iPhone app.
  • Alarm System; no point watching a video playback of people stealing your stuff, you need a deterrent.
  • Home automation / docker / HomeAssistant and Apple Home Kit.
  • Open and close garage door securely.

  7. Setup QuickConnect Users
    1. Deactivate Guest Account.
    2. Create explicit permissions for specific users for SMB
    3. Setup 2FA for QuickConnect for each external user/then login to DSM to configure OTP.
    4. Setup Synology Photos / Account / Settings / Shared Space / Set Access Permissions / Add user to Can access all folders.
